Einstein’s Theory of Relativity – Musings on the Science of the Miraculous

•February 24, 2012 • Leave a Comment

One of the four people I’d like to have lunch with in Heaven is Albert Einstein I like to think of him as “Uncle Albert” as if he were my friendly Jewish Uncle.

I’d like to have a conversation with Einstein because he was someone who could make complicated ideas, like the relativity of time, understandable even to a young child.

I often recount an anecdote about how Einstein apparently stumbled upon the concept of time being related to the speed of light when he was only seven years old. Let me share this story with you.

Young Albert was sitting in his classroom on a hot summer day in June, wearing his suit and tie and knickers as was appropriate in 1893 in Germany. The teacher was droning on in German, and Einstein, who probably already knew what she was teaching, was looking out the window, watching the dust motes dance in a ray of light. Idly he wondered about the shaft of light. Did light travel in a straight line? Or did it curve? He wanted to find out. So, in his imagination, he hopped on the light beam, and started riding it out to the edge of the universe. He pondered this question. Was he on a trip “to infinity…. and beyond?” Would the journey go on forever, or would he find that the light beam did not travel in a straight line to infinity, but curved and eventually came back to Earth?

Suddenly, the sharp voice of his teacher snapped him out of his reverie. “Einstein! Pay atten-shun!” He snapped back into the classroom, and easily answered the question. But he couldn’t help wondering how it was possible that as he was travelling at the speed of light to the edge of the Universe, his classmates were plodding along trying to figure out the answer to 5 + 9?

Einstein spent the rest of his life “trying to understand the mind of God,” a quest not unlike my own, and thus my feeling of affinity for the old geezer. As I get older myself, I find I am fascinated by the scientific explanation of phenomena that previously would have been called “miraculous.”

I failed Grade Eleven math abysmally (thirty-six percent!) which meant I would have to repeat my entire year. Instead, I auditioned and was accepted as the youngest student in Canada to attend the National Theater School of Canada. I was sixteen. So I never got to study Physics, the prospect of which terrified me, anyway.

But my pursuit of a life on the stage left a gaping hole in my knowledge of how the Universe works. Apart from my brilliant brother, who was the audio-visual instructor for the Ontario Science Centre for 25 years, and who patiently explains complex ideas to me in layman’s terms, I don’t have any scientific education.

But I do have a Master’s Degree in Education. This equipped me to be a high school substitute teacher for ten years. To make the role more amusing, I called myself “Miss Frizzle,” a children’s cartoon character that teaches science to students through adventures undertaken on a Magic School Bus. Even the most hardened teenaged football player would soften at the memory of “Miss Frizzle.” They inevitably would call out, “Are you going to take us on a field trip, Miss Frizzle?” Ironically, although I was playing the part of a science teacher, I had to admit that still didn’t understand simple physics. When the movie, “What the Bleep Do We Know?” came out, I became determined to learn as much as I could about Quantum Mechanics and Neuroscience.

It is thanks to one of my Grade Eleven students that I now understand the theory of relativity, and its relationship to the “mind of God.”

As the students filed into my English class, chattering away, I noticed that the student who was already sitting directly in front of me, a Chinese boy, wearing a blue blazer and a tie, (in high school, no less), had a copy of his Grade 11 Physics text book on his desk. The buzzer had not yet rung for class to start. I told this young man I wanted to borrow his Physics text, so that could read a scientific explanation of the Theory of Relativity. With a quizzical expression on his face, he turned the book over to me.

I didn’t look in the Index or the Contents. I simply, opened the book, asked to be shown, and put my finger down. It landed on the exact and the only paragraph in the entire text that referred to the theory of relativity. Delighted at the elegance of this occurrence, I read the explanation of Einstein’s theory, which was succinct enough for even a child, or an uneducated adult, like myself, to understand.

But what followed was even more interesting. It was a paragraph explaining the concept of the speed of light and infinity. I read that Einstein claimed that you couldn’t actually reach the speed of light. I asked the Chinese student to explain. “Oh, you couldn’t do that. If you went as fast as Light, you would live forever!”

The light went on in my mind. I understood.

The faster one goes, the slower time goes, relative to the one who is moving. So, if one were to travel at the speed of light, the faster you went, the more time would slow down, and eventually it would stop.
You would live forever, as my student said, because when time stops, past and future disappear, or are all happening simultaneously. All that is left is now.

That is what quantum physicists mean by the term “zero point.”
It is the eternal, continuous, never-ending moment of now:
Pure consciousness and eternal love.

Therefore . . .

Bada-bing, Bada-boom . . .

infinity = eternity !!!!!!!!

As I typed the eight exclamation marks above, I recalled being on lunch break from a conference in a shabby little town that time had passed by in upstate New York. It was not far, indeed, from Walden’s Pond where Thoreau had escaped the bonds of time.

As I rounded the corner, looking for a restaurant, my eye caught a white building with Greek Style columns. There was an oval sign inscribed in gold that said,

The International Museum of Graphology

It was like something out of a Harry Potter movie. I felt compelled to go inside. What met me was a high ceilinged room lined on each side by a row elegant 17th Century styled white chairs trimmed in gold. As if protected by invisible guardians seated on the chairs, there were long glass showcases arranged in horseshoe the length of the room. I read the sign just inside the door. It said that the handwriting of such ancients as Galileo had been exhibited here. The current exhibition was the handwriting of my hero, Einstein! I felt as if I were in a dream. I looked around to see if anyone was there, an attendant of some kind. Surely there was a cost involved? There was no one. I slowly advanced toward the glass cases, as if they were some sort of Holy Grail.

Sure enough, as I looked into the cases, there were his notebooks, his letters, and finally, I came to it. It was a letter written to a fellow scientist on the day of his joyous discovery. The letters fairly leapt off the page!

e = mc2 !!!!!!!!

I counted the exclamation marks he had written. There were eight of them.

That is how I felt in that shimmering moment when time “stood still” as I grasped the true meaning of the relativity of time.

The buzzer rang. I called the class to order, and, handing back the book to its donor, I began to share what I had just discovered. Yes, this was an English class, but I consider English to be one of the Humanities. I believe it is appropriate to use the English language for the discussion of great and noble ideas. And most certainly time and eternity must be included in the things worth speculating about.

I began with the anecdote I have shared with you about Einstein’s youthful enquiry. And then, I told another story that took place closer to the end of his life. His son in law asked him how he came to the theory of relativity.

“In vision,” he replied. “I had spent many years trying to discover the mathematical formula. Finally I admitted to myself that I was in despair. I would never be able to solve it. I gave up and went to bed. As I was falling asleep, I had one of those rare moments of hypnogogic imagery, a mini-dream that one has just as one is nodding off. You wake up immediately and you can remember the whole dream clearly.

In that dream, he said, it was as if the entire structure of the Universe were being revealed to me in detail, I saw how all the parts fell together like the pieces of a gigantic jigsaw puzzle.

“And that was when peace came. A peace that will not leave me, not while Einstein lives.”

The silence was dense. Then I told them the final, mysterious words, that Einstein gifted to his son-in-law.

“The equation of my youth was ‘e = mc2’

The equation of my age is . . . ‘Love = Space’

I let those words hang in the air as the silence in the room deepened.

It was the silence of wonder at the profound mystery of existence, perhaps the same quality of silence that allowed Einstein to receive that Divine transmission of vision.

After a beat or two, one of the girls raised her hand and asked,

“Does that mean that in the gap between the molecules, it’s Love?”

The astonishing simplicity and beauty of her question took my breath away.

In fact it wasn’t a question at all. It was poetry.

The exquisite truth of her statement hung suspended like a dewdrop on the edge of a leaf.

I let my response drop from my soul into the pool of thoughtful stillness in the classroom.

“I believe so. Yes. It’s Love.”

The Power of Restoring Integrity

•October 11, 2010 • Leave a Comment

We are in the midst of an amazingly powerful transformation of human consciousness. In that context, I want to share with you my musings on Integrity, on wholeness, on perfection, and how we can realistically restore ourselves and our relationship to this increasingly chaotic world we live in through the use of such practices as mindfulness & meditation. Due to a Landmark Education Seminar I am taking, called, “Living Powerfully: A Life that Defies the Predictatable,” I am comprehending the meaning of Integrity in a totally fresh way .

Integrity, according to Dr. Joe DiMaggio, Landmark Forum Leader, (and former Brain Surgeon) is that which is “whole, complete, perfect, unimpaired, sound.” I would add to that, “pure, innocent, in the sense of beautiful, clean, unblemished, impeccable, with nothing left out.” According to Mathematics Professor , Ryan Derby-Talbot, PhD., of Quest University, British Columbia, the word integrity comes from the root word in Latin, ‘integer’ which means “something that is bring forth, fresh, sound, unexhausted, intact, entire.” In mathematics, he says, an integer it is something that doesn’t touch another thing, that is complete unto itself. He also says it is a line that goes on to infinity, or something that ” goes off on a tangent,” so to speak. I am sure we can all relate to that. But the more common Latin meaning we have adopted, is to say that something that is in integrity is balanced, honest, impartial, unbiased, free from prejudice.” But the meaning in my Latin dictionary that I prefer is “to renew, to begin afresh.”  “Integrum restutere” therefore, means to restore a thing to its former condition: unspoilt, pure, fresh.”

It is this conversation for transformation that I wish to discuss.

In the context of Landmark Education, integrity has to do with honouring your word as yourself, and this is achieved by creating an hounouring, or empowering context in the use of your “word,” as in honouring your word, as if it were yourself,  and by extension, your thoughts, essentially, about yourself.  Restoring integrity in our outer world, therefore, depends on honouring our word, keeping our promises. As soon as we know we are not going to do what we said, the way we said we would, or the way others expect us to, we communicate, and make a new promise, which we keep.

In other words, integrity is not a question of morality. It is a question of workability. I think we can all agree that the state of our world is out of integrity. It has become completely unworkable that it is breaking down on all fronts. Our Home Planet is so out of integrity that we are all going “to hell in a handbasket!”

So what to do about it? Restore ourselves to integrity, and powerful access to workable action and elegant solutions, both practical, scientific, and realistic will emerge. They will seem miraculous, but they will work, because they are in alignment with the integrity of the natural state of the Universe, of Creation, if you will. The fundamental plank, the foundational law upon which integrity is built, that it is as sound and immutable as the power of gravity, is simply that:

“WITHOUT INTEGRITY NOTHING WORKS!”

I think we can all agree that our world has reached a state where it is completely out of integrity. It certainly looks as if this is reality, inevitable, hopeless. Many of us have become cynical and resigned about the state things are in, where we have ended up, so to speak. Nothing is working the way it used to. The old way has disintegrated so far out of integrity that it is literally collapsing under our feet. Our “understanding,” the very ground on which we stand, is shaking, has gone so far awry, is so out of control, so chaotic and unpredictable, that it is not to be trusted.

For those who have no understanding of the process of transformation, no vision of where we are going and how to get there, no framework of transformation to support them, this is terrifying indeed. Many of us, stand by, overwhelmed, paralyzed by fear, dismayed, grief-stricken, completely disempowered, believing it is too late, that we can do nothing, it is unsolvable, with no comprehension of what to do anyway, except recycle and pray.

But we know somehow that is not enough. What must be transformed is our whole way of being on the planet.

We cannot allow ourselves to simply  stand by helplessly letting the catastrophe unfold,  to settle for where we seem to have ended up. For those of us that are awake, that are not numb to the suffering that is occurring on this planet, and who have some access, some clarity on how to get there from here, have a responsibility. As Andrew Harvey says in his book, “The Hope.” we who know that we are cause in the matter of our own lives must get into action, step up to the plate, to answer the call, to take  purposeful, powerful, passionate action in service to this planet. In short, we must take our place as leaders in the world. Those of us who are awake and responsible, who aspire to become and are powerful, those who are able and capable of achieving mastery, must lead the way by restoring ourselves to one hundred percent integrity.

We are the  way showers for others in leading the charge, fierce in the protection, defense of and cherishing our beloved Mother, who is in danger of dying in the throes of birth. We should be down on our knees declaring our passionate commitment and gratitude to She who has given us life, who has fed us and nurtured us, given us fresh air to breathe, clean air to breathe, pure water to drink, beautiful bodies to grow to communicate and love with, clear eyes to see with, and strong hands to build with, and fertile minds to create with.

Understanding, as we do, the power of language to influence the neural pathways, and by extension, the quantum field,  we understand that this is the ultimate opportunity to start afresh, to influence the quantum field with the integrity and the power of our thoughts and actions,  to co-create and influence the way this story goes.

We are engaged in nothing less than inventing a future worth living into for ourselves and our children, and our children’s children. Knowing, as we do, the power of thought to create, let’s not create profits so we can buy a Maserati to serve our ego, but dedicate ourselves and to creating a transformed, shining plan of which we can be proud.

Otherwise, as Andrew Harvey says in his book “The Hope,” if we keep going the way we are going, the probable, almost certain future is that we end up in a barren, sterile planet, that does not support life, including our own, with the majority of our animals and plants extinct, with water too toxic to drink, with food to poisonous to eat, and with air too polluted to breathe, and with our own race, our own genetic strain, in danger of extinction.

If we are not to settle for where we have ended up, if we are to defy the predictable, and enter the realm of the truly miraculous, then those of us who are awake, those of us engaged in the business of transformation, have got to “turn this “Starship,” as Buckminster Fuller dubbed it, around.

If we are to get back to the Garden, the way it was created, whole, complete, and pristine, and restore our beautiful Mother Earth to the lovely, natural paradise she was before the so-called “Fall from Grace,” then we must to restore our own integrity in the way we relate to her. We have to honour our  the spirit of Gaia, or “Ewa”  as she was called in the movie “Avatar,”  before we fell into the divisive world of duality consciousness, good and evil, black and white, right and wrong, then we have got to change the game we are playing from tolerating as normal, being “just  a little bit” out of integrity in the name of being ‘”realistic,” to defining the natural state of human being, as what we are, not as fatally flawed, but as perfectly created in one hundred percent integrity.

To my mind, integrity is our original state, how we were created. Look in a baby’s eyes, and you will see pure ultimate integrity. the realm where the miraculous is ordinary. It is that state of being, that beginner’s mind, that I believe is needed now, at this time when we are suffering through the labour of the birth of a new form of consciousness. To some, it is the unlike any other shift in the evolution in human consciousness that we have ever endured. Humanity is suffering – Latin root meaning  of suffering + “undergoing” or “enduring.”  But as terrifying and uncertain and risky as labour and birth is, there is an opportunity inherent in a new birth to restore integrity, in a word, to begin afresh.

As Futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard says, in her new book, “Conscious Evolution.” we are newly born, young and new to this new state of being. Let us protect and cherish the new state of being that we have been blessed with, the precious integrity we have had bestowed on us by our Divine birthright. Let us respect and honour one another as ONE as partners and co-creators in the birth of a new paradigm of transformed reality called Unity Consciousness.

So, how does meditation relate in a practical way to restoring both ourselves, and by extension, our world integrity?

In meditation, we are fully present, and available, to achieving a clean uncluttered, empty, inner space of “no-thing,” a blank page on which to design what it is we wish to create. By creating a clear, still space, we can look and see what is actually there, look at the pain of the story we made of the past. We can look at what is in front of us, without the filters of fear or regret, of resentment, blame, or shame, or guilt from the past, or fear, anxiety or worry about the future.

In that clear space we access in meditation, we can identify, embrace, and reintegrate all the disowned fragments of our true selves that had slowly been chipped away, disowned, separated off, compartmentalized, and projected onto others, leaving us completely disintegrated out of integrity, into a dull state of resignation to being ordinary. Without integrity, we are incapable of being the extraordinary, comparable, powerful human beings we came here to be . When we have access to remembering who we really are as we were created the whole, complete, pure, magnificent and beautiful beings we were meant to be, a whole new world of possibility opens up. Our authentic greatness, not our ego’s grandiosity, emerges.

This is our true integral nature. We are at the zero point of pure causality. In this shining, pure moment of grace, we can recognize, with humility the powerful, creative beings we came into these body bags to be. We can begin freely expressing the fabulous, magnificent gifted, extraordinary human beings that we are.

All of this is by way of explaining to a person in my Seminar who asked for information about meditation. So, all that being said, here are my musings on, and understanding of the role meditation, to restoring integrity to our bodies, minds, and souls, and hopefully, to our world. Because if, without integrity nothing works, then conversely, in a world that operates with one hundred percent integrity, everything works.

So if you ask yourself, “Why integrity?” it is because it works.

How does it work?

Really all you have to do is sit, with your eyes closed and your spine straight, (in a chair or on the floor with your legs crossed…feel the feeling of dignity and repose that gives you. Close your eyes, and breathe and watch your breath and watch your thoughts, without getting attached to them or making them mean anything. Empty and meaningless.

That is it.

As soon as you close your eyes, your brain waves, the electrical frequency at which your brain vibrates, goes from waking state, also known as Beta waves, to Theta state. On the edge between Theta and Delta, the slowest vibration where you are when you fall asleep, is where, if you can keep yourself awake, meditation happens.

Sometimes it helps to breathe in (like sucking the breath up through a straw from the base of your spine on up to the top (crown) of your head, to the count of 4, (1-2-3-4) then hold your breath for the count of 8, (1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8) then slowly release your breath to the count of 1-2-3-4 – I know, I know…. You know how to count to four already. (:

See how simple that is?

If that works for you, just do that counting thing for a while, until you get the sense that your mind is calming down. It intensifies it and gets you “in the zone” so to speak.

Alternatively, you can just keep breathing in and out slowly, watching your breath, and watch your thoughts as they float by. Just notice them, do not attach to them. Let them wander in, or jump in frantically trying to get your attention, (sometimes called ‘monkey mind’, or ‘ego,’ in spiritual terms, or, in Landmark language, the ‘little voice in your head,’ or  ‘it,’ or the “identity.”

Those thoughts are who your ‘it’ mind thinks you are, in language.

Actually, they do not honour your integrity, or who you really are at all. They chip away at you and denigrate you, and they are going on all the time, constantly, in the background until you consciously sit down and attend to them, slow them down, listen to the nonsense they are trying to tell you is the truth, and then, you shift into the Truth of who you are, and have an access for remembering what and who that is: Innocent, pure, whole, perfect, complete, sound, impeccable, with nothing left out. Integral. Not a good person, or a bad person, or even good thoughts or bad thoughts. Just what is, “what’s so.” Words. More words…trotting across your mind, galloping, even, like runaway horses in a panic or an “amygdala hijack,” as Dr. Joe DiMaggio, (formerly one of the four top neurosurgeons in New York, and now the Landmark Forum leader who writes the Seminars we are experiencing) calls it in the “Living and Invented Life” Seminar.

In brain science, it is the part of the brain, the frontal lobe brain or Neo-Cortex, that is completely concerned with survival and thinks that anxiety and worry and thinking can protect you, all the neural pathways that are worn in by prolonged use, and become your habitual way of reacting to normal everyday circumstances. The filter, if you will.

Dr. Joe Dispenza, from the movie “What the Bleep Do We Know,” says about this, “What wires together, fires together!” He is talking about the new science of neuroplasticity, rewiring the connections between the synapses in our brain that connect the neurons in habitual, well-worn neural pathways. This is what we are beginning to interrupt when we meditate.

You see, ninety-five percent of our brain is hidden from our awareness, in our ‘blind spot’ so to speak. In addition, it is constantly generating up a virtual firestorm of thought patterns in grooves in our brain that do not necessarily serve us, but are running us. You should SEE what is going on in there when we have an orgasm. Resets the entire system!)

But mostly it is just old habits of thought designed to keep us eating and protect us from being eaten…. in other words, fear- driven survival thoughts, producing adrenaline (short term stress) and cortisol, (long term stress) which, as I understand it, if it goes on bombarding our brains and our bodies long enough, consequently creates contraction, hypertension, stress, inflammation at the cellular level, and chips away at the integrity of the body, and lead to such diseases as addictions of all kinds,  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, (ADHD,) Heart Disease, Cancer and can even eventually, the big ‘D,’ Death!

So, not the self-honoring pathway of restoring integrity that we want to follow, is it? Especially if your body is engaged in a long term building project, like building a baby for instance, or growing your body or your mind back to a healthy or unbalanced state. For that we want dopamine and serotonin, the happy hormones, which are produced when we are engaged in, for instance: great sex, healthy pregnancy, healthy physical activity, like running or mountain climbing, or even walking in nature, or yoga, and of course, MEDITATION All these activities produce dopamine and/or serotonin, to one degree or another. They help reduce addiction, depression, and restore the body and the mind to…

You got it:

INTEGRITY!

SO…. back to meditation…. Just say to yourself, when you notice those pesky little thoughts that drag you out of integrity, into the past or the future, just notice them, be with them, put your arms around them if you have to, and embrace them, Forgive yourself for believing those thoughts about yourself or anything outside yourself, your circumstances, are who you really are. And then let it all dance away. What is left?

Nothing. NO – THING. Because thoughts are things!!! You are now in the clearing of the mind in which to honour your true integrity, remember who you really are, and whole, complete and perfect, with nothing left out, and begin again, with beginner’s mind, to invent your new way of being that you would like to become.

And, if you really want to be bold, once you get the hang of clearing your mind so you are in ‘no-thing’ then you can let yourself begin to invent a new way of being that you want to become, and focus on THAT!

That is when you start rewiring your brain. That is the PRACTICE of being with No-thing, and creating….ANY thing!

We are actually only stuck with fifty percent of our DNA, and 95 percent of our brains is mouldable. That is what the new science of neuro-plasticity is all about. How is that for information? I just put all that together in my mind, and did it internally while writing to you about it. Thanks for the opportunity! If you can manage to do this at the same time each day, it will be wonderful. Your mind then gets programmed to your little morning and/or evening date with your authentic, no-thing Self, your true way of being, your integral integrity, whole, complete and perfect, in a state of grace and peace and joy, just the way you were designed.

And there you have it: A CLEARING FOR CREATION.

Cool, huh?

The Conscious Convergence
A Wave of Unity July 17-18, 2010:

Creating the Intention for the Unity Consciousness
of the Ninth Wave of the Mayan calendar!
Main article points:

* The Mayan calendar is about you.

* According to the ancient Maya the creation of the universe is effected by nine waves.

* We are now approaching the end of the eighth wave and, on top of this, the activation of the ninth and highest level that will cap off the evolution of the universe.

* This ninth level of the universe is designed to generate unity consciousness.

* The manifestation of the unity consciousness brought by the ninth level will require an intention on the part of the human beings to co-create this.

* The Conscious Convergence, July 17-18, 2010, is for those that are willing to set the intention to create unity consciousness in the ninth wave of the Mayan calendar system.

Creating the intention for the unity consciousness
of the Ninth Wave of the Mayan calendar!

In recent years there has been a radically increased interest in the Mayan calendar and especially its end and so many ask what this tells us about the future. Surprisingly, many people ask this question as if the answer had nothing to do with themselves or the choices they make. Few seem to have considered that the fulfillment of the cosmic plan will require of them to step up to the role of co-creators with this divine plan. This is not to say that human beings can just create anything they want at any point in time. The waves of consciousness brought by the Mayan calendar still defines the framework of our existence and what we may or may not be able to create in any given era. Yet, only the creativity that is consistent with a new wave will be favored and this will again be evident as we enter the ninth, and highest, wave of the Mayan calendar system. It is thus pertinent to ask what consciousness the ninth wave will create and what it will require of us to be able to step up to becoming co-creators with this wave.

To address this we need to consult the ancient Maya and look at their only inscription, which describes the meaning of the end of their calendar, the Tortuguero Monument 6. This says that at that point in time the nine-step entity, Bolon Yookte, (Fig 1) will “descend.”* What this means in a more straight language is that a combination of nine cosmic forces, nine wave movements, will simultaneously manifest fully. In this ancient Mayan way of looking at the meaning of the end of the calendar there is thus nothing that speaks of an end to the world. Rather, what the end of the calendar system is all about is a completion, or fulfillment, of evolutionary processes that have been going on from the beginning of time and led the world to what it is today.

These nine cosmic forces are the nine evolutionary progressions (Underworlds), each through thirteen energies that the prophetic Mayan calendar system is made up from, a system, which significant events in biological and historical evolution correlate extremely well with. The different progressions each develop a different frame of consciousness and currently we are most strongly influenced by the eighth wave. It is however the ninth and highest of these wave movements that will bring about the final shift to unity consciousness that will culminate as the calendar comes to an end. I feel it is imperative to realize that these nine cosmic forces are not acting separately from the human beings, but through their influence on us and so they will only manifest inasmuch as the humans align with them. I feel we also need to consider that the co-creation of this highest level requires that we are truly committed to its purpose. It is in preparation of this somewhat mysterious ninth wave that I am encouraging the celebration of the Conscious Convergence, July 17-18, 2010, as a point to focus on aligning with the highest and decisive wave of the Mayan calendar system, the ninth wave.

Many people have an intuitive sense that the end of the Mayan calendar will bring a shift in consciousness. Yet, it is rarely clearly stated or explained exactly what is the source of such a shift, how it will happen or what would be its nature. Maybe however shifts in consciousness are actually a little less mysterious than many people tend to believe. In fact, shifts in consciousness have been happening from the beginning of time and continue to happen whenever there is a significant energy shift in the Mayan calendar, such as between any of its days and nights.

Fig 1.
The Cosmic Pyramid, or the nine-step-god (Bolon Yookte), whose nine waves will simultaneously manifest as the Mayan calendar comes to an end.

Despite all these previous shifts in cosmic history I feel however that there is something very special and significant with the new consciousness that may be expected to be generated by the ninth wave.

To begin with, for all that we know it is designed to bring a shift to unity consciousness where the human mind no longer will be dominated by any dark filter (see Fig 2). We will in other words become “transparent” and I believe this is the particular consciousness – seeing reality the way it is with no separation – that so many are waiting for. Not just any consciousness, but one that transcends the dualities of the past and aids the human beings to see the unity of all things. The reason that this kind of unity consciousness can be beneficial to the planet, and to mankind, is that it is one that leads to the transcendence of all separation (between man and woman, man and nature, ruler and ruled, east and west, etc). I feel that without the manifestation of such a shift in consciousness the world will sooner or later come to an end. People with a dualist and separating consciousness are somewhat like cancer cells in the body of the Earth with little regard to its larger whole and would eventually generate a collapse of its ecosystem. Only a shift to unity consciousness will forever stop the unchecked exploitation of the Earth and on a deeper level make us understand that we are part of creation and need to live in harmony with it. But will such a shift just happen automatically?

Fig 2. Yin/Yang-polarities of the Human Mind created by the Five Highest Waves of the Cosmic Pyramid (Bolon Yookte).

As mentioned above global consciousness shifts have their origin in the resonance with the cosmic forces described by the Mayan calendar. Hence, even though some may temporarily have experienced altered states of consciousness it is only in as much as a shift is induced in accordance with the cosmic plan, as we may understand this from the Mayan calendar, that it will be here to stay. Thus, only with the ninth wave may a shift to unity consciousness be regarded as something whose time has truly come. This is the wave that will cap off all of the previous evolution of mankind and build the bridge that will allow us to enter the new world that will follow upon the end of the calendar.

On the other hand the student of the Mayan calendar will know that in order for a consciousness shift to manifest the human beings must be in resonance with it and at some point at least subconsciously have made a choice to align with. Hence, a large-scale consciousness shift is not something that can happen against the will of the human beings. Especially at the highest levels of evolution, such as the ninth, it can only happen through human beings that choose to serve as co-creators. Unfortunately many have been led to believe that there is some physical event to wait for, such as a pole shift, Nibiru, sun flares, or a galactic alignment, resulting in a passive attitude that has made the Mayan calendar seem disempowering and events as being outside of their power to influence. I believe however that, as the Hopi are saying, “we are the ones that we have been waiting for.” If we make the commitment to do so we can co-create unity consciousness with the ninth wave.

As many readers of this article may have experienced there are spiritual practices, healing techniques and methods for personal development that in fact do cause temporary shifts in consciousness and the experience of unity of all things. Yet, what seems to be missing for such transformations to play a positive role on a larger scale is the commitment of a critical mass of people to create a world based on such unity consciousness. The idea behind the Conscious Convergence, July 17-18, 2010, is thus to create a powerful intention to do so. There is in fact one thing that is always in our power to do – and in the power of all human beings to do – and this is to intend to create and manifest unity consciousness. As the student of the law of attraction will know, all manifestation begins with an intention and without an intention there is no result.
The Conscious Convergence – A Wave of Unity is thus for all those who intend to manifest unity consciousness. (It may be important to point out that it is not about intending any shift of consciousness, but one to unity consciousness). It is for those who authentically will say: “I intend to manifest unity consciousness.” Whatever you believe in, whatever worldview you have, it is still in your power to intend such a shift for yourself and others. The proposed dates are timely for setting the intention to do so in that it leads up to a manifestation of unity consciousness during the ninth wave in alignment with the cosmic plan. Without such a widespread intention it is doubtful whether there will ever be such a shift on this planet either individually or collectively.

Based on the creation of such an intention in the Conscious Convergence it seems natural that people will also want to perform ceremonies and participate in spiritual practices that are manifestations of such a unity consciousness and seek whatever ways are possible to make permanent its results. In fact the Conscious Convergence should be looked upon as the beginning of a process toward deepened unity consciousness that never stops. This is the kind of commitment that I believe will be required. For those desiring to fulfill the cosmic plan, the Conscious Convergence should be an entry point to co-creating the ninth wave and something we should never want to drop out of. To start following the Mayan calendar on a daily basis from this point within the framework provided by the Ninth wave may in fact by itself be a significant factor for developing unity consciousness. Only with deadlines do projects become real and the calendar provides us with a time frame within which this is to be accomplished.

It seems important that manifestations linked to the Conscious Convergence are planned very carefully and express this new unity consciousness so that they are not just thoughtlessly applied expressions of the old world we have been living in. If, for instance, artistic performances are part of the celebration, it seems wise to consider whether these are enhancing the experience of unity of all or if they create an experience of separation between the artists and the audience. The same may apply to the performance of ceremonies if the leader is not truly inclusive. A good example of a ceremony that is an expression of unity consciousness is in my mind when Jack Sully in Avatar is taken up as a member of the people of Pandora. Furthermore, if for the generation of unity consciousness valuable spiritual practices are used it may be considered whether irrelevant worship of founders or gurus can be excluded. Maybe silent and low key common practices are in fact the most powerful manifestations of unity consciousness, but regardless it is important that participants walk their talk and do not recreate dominance structures. How to do this would be for local organizers to decide and here it is only emphasized the importance of approaching this issue with fresh eyes and much attention paid to details.

The name Conscious Convergence alludes to the Harmonic Convergence, a mind-opening gathering on August 17-18, 1987 (1 Imix and 2 Ik) and so it is important to point out the relationship between the two and why after so many years there is a second one, July 17-18, 2010 (13 Eb and 1 Ben)**. The important commonality between the two Convergences is that they both are (essentially) placed in time at a doubling of the 8th and 9th wave movements of the Mayan calendar and hence reflect energy shifts that herald the respective transformations of consciousness brought by these waves. Put in other terms: What the Harmonic Convergence meant to the quantum jump to the eighth wave the Conscious Convergence will mean to the quantum jump to the ninth wave.*** (Hence, it can be understood as a 2nd Harmonic Convergence). Or, if we include the seventh wave and its pre-wave (see Fig 3) for comparison, we may see that it will mean to the preparation for the ninth wave what the European Renaissance meant to the quantum jump to the modern world of industrialism. What is different now, and a challenge for the Conscious Convergence, is that this step cannot be said to be in the interest of separate individuals, but rather of all of humanity.

Fig 3. The three highest waves of the cosmic pyramid and their preparatory waves (in different scales). Examples of how the visions at the beginning of the pre-wave prepares for the full wave consider how the many inventions (on paper) by Leonardo da Vinci around 1498 presaged the real industrial inventions of the 7th wave or how the Harmonic Convergence presaged the much increased interest in the Mayan calendar in the 8th wave.

From these parallels (Fig 3) we may see that the Conscious Convergence is not by itself the beginning of the ninth wave, which does not start until Mar 9, 2011.**** Rather this celebration initiates a wave, a pre-wave, that precedes and paves the ground for the ninth wave and directly leads into it. The Conscious Convergence is thus tremendously important as a point for creating the intention of unity consciousness even if this will only be fully developed later with the ninth wave. Maybe it will in fact be humanity’s last chance of setting such an intention, which almost with necessity must exist at an early point if we are to elevate ourselves above the economic chaos that we may expect in the years ahead. In my own view the hope for the future lies exactly in learning to surf on this ninth wave and so transcending, rather than getting caught up in, all the dualities and conflicts of lower Underworlds. If this is so it must also be expected that the Conscious Convergence will meet with much resistance from all those forces that are defending the ego-based operation of the old world and the massive hierarchies this has generated. As a small example of this a commercial media industry has now emerged around ”2012” where it is speculated about what is going to happen as if this were independent of the intentions and creative direction people choose. Naturally we will also come to be faced with our own cynicism and apathy towards the state of the world and thoughts will come back to us as: “this is not possible”, “the world will not change”, etc and it is for this reason a strong commitment will be needed.

The Conscious Convergence is meant to be a very inclusive event that can be embraced by everyone who intends the emergence of unity consciousness regardless of his or her views about the Mayan calendar or otherwise. It is about positively and constructively using a window of opportunity and so participation in this only requires an insight that the consciousness shift must come out of the evolutionary processes that we are currently part of. Thus, a shift to unity consciousness is not something that will simply drop down on us from the sky at some date in the future, but can only evolve from the point where we are at the present moment. It is a basic tenet of the law of attraction that providence only moves when you are committed and so far the commitment for a transition to unity consciousness has not surfaced on a larger scale or even been proposed previously.

For this event to be successful in generating the intention for the shift to the consciousness of the ninth wave a massive participation in it will be desirable also at preparatory stages. The preparatory efforts have to be shared by the millions that intend for a shift in consciousness to take place. To bring it about a collective effort will thus be needed and already making a choice to participate is part of creating the intention that has been discussed here. Initially, there will be a great need for people to take initiatives to disseminate the call for the Conscious Convergence around the world. It is important to approach organizations to have them embrace it. Then there will be the need for people to make their unique contributions known through public web sites, social media and other networks. There will also be a need for funding of many aspects of the activities and for staff, which can be done through to www.CommonPassion.org, a 501c3 non-profit, public benefit corporation. Then, there will be a need for creative planning of events and the creation of a network between these. Individuals and organizations who wish to participate in this global program are invited to join the discussion for particulars of the shared intention and to connect with others around the world that will be co-creating this intentional wave of unity consciousness. A discussion forum has been initiated at:

http://forum.commonpassion.org/viewforum.php?id=50.

My own view is that this is the last chance that human beings will have to truly align themselves with the cosmic plan. It is now or never and if you do not think that the Conscious Convergence has something to do with you you probably have not studied the Mayan calendar seriously enough. Hence, there can be no proxies for your participation in the transformation of the world as the calendar comes to an end. The final descent of Bolon Yookte, the Nine Waves (Nine Lords of Time or Nine Underworlds, or whatever name you prefer) is upon us and it is not without reason that the number nine is sacred in so many spiritual traditions. Nine is the destiny number of humanity and so it will be your own choice whether you want to be part of co-creating this destiny.

* See for instance my article on the Tortuguero monument:

** The Conscious Convergence is not based on tzolkin days, but rather on the fractal time acceleration of the nine waves. Yet, we may still pay attention to the tzolkin day of the event. Thus July 17, 2010 is 13 Eb, one of the more mysterious day signs that is typically translated as The Road or Grass and, since it is linked to the number 13, this day is very typical of the Eb day sign. Road usually refers to the road of life or the road up the cosmic pyramid and grass refers to a grass roots event. Typically people born in this day sign are those that have the concern for seven generations into the future, do much good, but do not to seek the limelight for themselves.

*** This is not how the Harmonic Convergence was originally understood by Tony Shearer and José Argüelles. Shearer, a Native American, who first proposed the dates, saw the Harmonic Convergence as the end point of Thirteen Heavens starting AD 843 and the Nine Hells (52-year periods) that had followed upon Hernan Cortez landing in Vera Cruz in 1519 and Argüelles promoted this scheme in The Mayan Factor. While this may have served as a guiding prophecy that intuitively led to identifying the dates of the Harmonic Convergence as August 16-17, 1987 (1 Alligator and 2 Wind) it in my view hardly serves as a theoretical understanding of why these dates were actually energetically important. Thus, the Harmonic Convergence was defined more mythologically than scientifically, since at the time the knowledge of the reality basis of the Mayan calendar was almost non-existent. We now know from Mayan sources that 13+9 is not to be regarded as a linear sequence, but that each of the Nine Underworlds was made up from Thirteen Heavens (Thus, according to the Mayan Books of Chilam Balam “the nine lords of time (Bolon-ti-ku) seized the thirteen lords of time (Oxlahun-ti-ku)” and so creation has an integrated pyramidal rather than linear structure. Whether people are aware of it or not, the entire evolution of the cosmos since the Big Bang has also been meticulously mapped out in light of the Mayan calendar and verified by massive empirical evidence.

**** I have probably contributed myself to the confusion that reigns when it comes to the beginning date of the Universal wave movement and have given different times for this. What we know is that the calendar develops according to nine wave movements, where the longest one goes back to the birth of the universe, and they all differ from one another with a factor of twenty. According to such a fractal view of the prophetic Mayan calendar system the ninth wave would then be only 234 days long made up of 13 different uaxaclahunkin (18 day) periods. This places the beginning of the ninth wave at March 9, 2011 and that of the preceding wave (Conscious Convergence) at July 17, 2010. These are points in time that are expected to mark significant frequency increases and accelerations of time.

As we approach the time when all the nine waves, developing at different speeds, will simultaneously come to manifest fully (28 October 2011, 13 Ahau) there is thus going to be quite complex patterns of overlapping of these waves. The Sacred Calendar rounds of 260 days will still have an unquestionable energetic existence and so these, as part of this overlapping, would continue the three stage rocket into the birth of the new world that started on 9.9.9 (Sept 9, 2009, please see http://www.calleman.com/content/articles/999_and_the_mayan_calendar.htm). For this reason the dates of the beginnings of the two next tzolkin rounds, May 27, 2010 and Feb 11, 2011, will also remain as important times for celebrating alignments with the cosmic plan and potentially very important for the preparation for the Conscious Convergence and the actual ninth wave respectively.

Education for the New Millennium: Mindfulness in a Mindless World

As a former Secondary School Teacher, Shelora has seen the impact of our failure to connect authentically with our youth up close. The problem is clear. We are not communicating with our children in a passionate, heartfelt way that touches, moves or inspires them. They have tuned us out. With no education for the heart, our children have become addicted to distractions.

The cost to society is enormous. At best they immerse themselves in computer games or shopping, at worst, they drink and drive too fast in a frantic attempt to catch up with their over-stimulated minds. From the media they acquire the illusion that all they have to do is become rock stars or sports stars, and they will have all the sex, drugs and fast cars, that money can buy them.

They do not see the need to learn for the love of it. They have lost their creativity along with their innocence. They cannot focus and think clearly or independently, or finish tasks on time. Many of them, especially the gifted and creative ones, have special needs and learning disabilities such as ADHD. In clutches of students at the back of the room, they feed off each other’s energy, interrupt, call out, and generally distract the others from their tasks. Often unidentified, especially the girls, who tend to act in, rather than out, they fall through the cracks.

Lack of boundaries, structure and standards leaves them adrift, subject to the shifting stimulus of the media, with and little aspiration except to get rich fast, and spend it even faster, Our children, entrained to the fast changing speed of Sesame street, are always looking for the next jolt of adrenaline, whether from drinking caffeine laden” energy” drinks, coffee or alcohol or listening to ear-drum breaking, angry music on their expensive Ipods and Iphones.

Parents despair as they lose connection with their children. They buy them more toys, thinking that will fill the void and prove their love. The media have become their parents. In the vacuum of a meaningless, frantic, greed- driven, fragmented society, the media tells them that the keys to success are money, sex and power, being special, having more, being better and different than others are,

As a result there is no sense of the internal world, no sense of the sacred, no guidelines, no authentic sense of self. As a society that has been dedicated to symbols of success as our only identity, we have lost our moral compass. In the ego driven game of getting more than others to prove we are special, we have lost our standards. There is no integrity, and without integrity, nothing works. Thirteen year olds boys aspire to become porn stars so they will be famous, or threaten to blow up the school. Thirteen year old girls climb out the window to go give sexual favors to boys and end up pregnant by the age of fourteen.

Or, at the other end of the spectrum, the well-behaved ones learn to repress themselves, and appease their parent’s fear-filled expectations with good grades. To please their parents, hey become addicted to getting high grades, suppressing their individual creativity in the name of achieving status, security and power.

Either way, we have lost touch with them so profoundly that the majority of the students that I taught had reached high school without knowing how to spell, or write a cogent sentence, let alone originate an idea. They cannot write or speak coherently, nor can they think critically. The majority has not learned how to learn, to love ideas for their own sake.

In the face of the dumbed down, normative service station for society that produces robotized children, the truly creative ones are alienated into a clutch of ADHD students at the back of the room, who chatter on endlessly, while the rest of the class try to focus and learn something that will earn them their way out of jail. Idealistic teachers give up the rigor of intellectual pursuit, lower their standards, and turn into the hacks that they once despised.

Shelora spent ten years teaching in this fear-driven cynical, antiquated system, created in the seventeen hundreds to serve the factories of Industrial Revolution. She not only survived, but also kept her passionate, creative soul alive. Students responded to her message of hope, and begged her to tell their parents what she has been telling them. As a result she is now launched on a new career dedicated to transforming the mindless into the mindful and replacing a loss of meaning with the possibility of inventing a miraculous new world.

The Newtonian model of human beings as machines without souls no longer serves us. There is a new paradigm of education emerging, as the old world collapses. In this new world, as the Dalai Lama says, we must educate our children to think with their hearts, to learn kindness and compassion, and to make a contribution to their Home Planet. There is still time to change course. Shelora talks about creating a positive, soul satisfying, enlightened new life in the face of a frantic, fear filled world that is collapsing because it no longer works. We promise you will be inspired by her passionate commitment to transforming the education system from within, and giving our children the core strength they need to not only survive, but thrive in the new millennium.

Days of Signs and Wonders

•April 25, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I have smelled the fragrance of Heaven.

I have seen the Eye of God,

I have seen the rays of the Great Central Sun that lies at the centre of the Galactic Universe.

In the past ten or eleven days, I have had many powerful confirmations that Jesus, my many angels, especially archangel Michael and the Holy Spirit are all around me, assisting me and lifting me into the Light.

But the greatest blessing of all is the healing I have received from Maxima.

Under her loving touch, all the lost souls and entities that have been inhabiting my body ever since I was a little girl of nine when a fifteen-year-old boy attempted to rape me to prove his manhood. They have lain there dormant for years. I came to believe that constant aches and pains were a normal part of growing older. But recently, with a cancer scare and a fall down the stairs, they really got activated, and in the name of protecting me, they have been having a feeding frenzy on my pain.

Now they have been loosened up and are leaving. But they are not going easily. I am acknowledging their service to me over the years. I am sure that they felt that they were serving and protecting me, but my whole right side, my masculine side, has become paralyzed by them.

Legions of angels are surrounding me especially, Archangel Michael, and many of the Ascended Masters, especially Jesus, all my spirit guides and beloved friends and family, all those who love me and watch over me are drawing close and supporting me.

I can feel their presence, I have been given incontrovertible evidence of their existence, but they have really not been able to get close to me because of the lost souls and energies that have inhabited my pain body.

So, in the name of the Light, I am claiming back my body as the sacred vessel of Light that it is and always has been. I am commanding them in the name of the Light, in the name of Lucifer, the angel of Light, to return to their Source, to be restored to the right hand side of God.

I now know myself to be an embodiment of the almighty presence of Light throughout the Universe. I have embraced a new identity as wise and enlightened spiritual leader. I am accepting 100 per cent responsibility for my powers as an intuitive healer and way-shower.

The time of signs and wonders is upon us, and I feel prepared to step into the Light of authentic empowerment and enlightenment with you.

I literally fell down on my knees, prostrate before the Light filled to overflowing with abundant, reverent joy and gratitude.

I surrendered the last remnants of my personal will.

When I surrendered completely, the sublime visions started flooding in.

Transparent Buddhas with wings, ranged one behind the other, sitting on a flaming lotus flower, held up by the hands of God. Then the two hands, palms filled, overflowing, with blazing Golden Light were held out to me.

The eye of God opened up the clouds and beamed down gracious rays of Light.

Then the Sun literally carved a hole in the sky and burst through in a blast of Golden Light that filled the room and struck the crystal tree in the room, and lighting each delicate crystal up with glorious, intense rainbow colours.

In a voice so strong and clear that I did not recognize it as my own, I proclaimed to the entire Universe:

In the name of the Light, I command that this Light be transmitted to the benefit of each and every one that they may share in the healing and find their way HOME to the Light.

“THY WILL, NOT MINE, BE DONE!!!”

The result is infinitely sweet grace, peace, and a rooted, grounded unshakable knowing that I cannot be swerved from.

I am now vibrating at the level I was always supposed to be.

I had simply forgotten, or perhaps I was afraid of the power I contain within.

Since that moment I am not the same person I was when I lay down on that table.

After watching the panoply of translucent colour dancing before me, after experiencing the intense pain that had been trapped in my right side, especially my hip and thigh and sacrum, as Maxima firmly commanded and guided those entities out of my body and liberated me from untold years of pain, suffering, guilt, shame, and blame. I arose transformed, reborn at the cellular level.

The whole notion of good and evil dissolved. I knew that we are ALL innocent; no matter how much pain we have caused others and ourselves.

I understood the statement “It is but ourselves we crucify.” from A Course in Miracles.

As I rose off the table, I felt such lightness, such freedom, that my body instantly recognized how heavy the invisible burden of fear and guilt I had been carrying since childhood had been. I laid it down like a child’s dress, billowing to the ground in the forest. As I did so, I watched as it transformed into a pile of leaves that then arose transformed into shimmering flight of white butterflies.

I had traveled back in time to the moment just before I had splintered into a thousand pieces to protect myself from attack. I was once again home restored, liberate in the light, pure, whole complete. My radiance was so bright that, when I was shattered and wounded, I had unwittingly attracted lost frightened souls to attach itself to the Light of my soul. I had finally liberated myself from the curse that had spellbound me since childhood. I had been resurrected, lifted by the Light into a realm far beyond the world of pain and suffering, life and death, time and distance.

One moment, I was an enchanted nine year old child, walking barefoot in the dark, silent forest, dressed only in a yellow bathing suit, on my way to the swimming hole that a boy had told me lay on the other side of the woods.

The next thing I knew I was captured by a shaft of Light shining through the dark, mysterious evergreens, and drawn inexorably forward towards two white butterflies that were dancing in the Light above my head. I stood there, perfectly still, not daring to move lest I disturb them; transfixed by the fluttering wings, captured by the Light that was showering down upon me.

I shall never forget that shining moment of Divine Grace. Then, frozen with delight and awe, I held my breath as the butterflies, mistaking me for me a tiny golden flower, descended, locked in their intricate spiral dance and landed gently on my touseled blonde curls.

That sacred moment is imprinted on my soul forever

A good thing, too, Because In the next instant, that moment of pure innocence it splintered into a thousand fragments of fear, guilt, pain and suffering when a young teenaged boy stepped out from behind the trees and invited me behind the bushes to see a dead squirrel. I hesitated.

The white butterflies…

But that moment was past. Startled by his presence, I had moved and they had flown away.

Once behind the bushes, he pinned me to the ground, held me by the shoulders with one knee on my groin and told me he was going to “fuck “ me.

I looked up at him, into his eyes glaring down at me. I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind.

“What’s fuck?”

His crumpled face said it all.

“Here’s a live one! She doesn’t even know what fuck is! What the hell am I doing?”

I knew by looking into his eyes, by his red and black lumberjack shirt, his slicked back “duck’s tail “hair, his black T-Shirt, his rolled up sleeves and blue Jeans, that he was a poor boy, a scared and confused boy, an angry boy. Unlike me, didn’t have a well to do father and mother who loved him very much, He probably didn’t even have a nice house to live in like I did.

He had every reason not to care. Yet somehow I knew he really didn’t want to do it.

I thought quickly, took a deep breath, and told him a lie. I said I had a father who loved me very much, and that he was very rich. Although we lived across the street from a millionaire’s family whose children went to school in a chauffeur driven limousine, I knew we didn’t have much money. My mother was frugal, and, having lived through the depression, knew how to stretch a dollar. We got our clothes from friends in the garment district. We went to welfare camp.

Our riches lay in the books, the musicians, the dancers, and the artists who were frequently our houseguests. Like my older friend Peggy Atwood’s family, my father had a bird book. There were dinner conversations about politics and philosophy and art. The entire Sadler’s Wells Ballet Company had come for dinner more than once. We always had a full fridge. Our clothes were always washed and hung out to dry on the clothesline. We had a gorgeous garden, and a neat little orange brick two-story house. We were living like the sensible third little pig.

But not this boy.

He had none of those advantages, and he couldn’t care less.

Somehow I knew everything about this boy.

He was poor. He was miserable. He hated his father. His father was a drunk. When he was drunk which was every day, his father yelled at him and hit him. His mother didn’t stand up for him when his father hit him. He felt powerless over his life. He wanted to escape. I knew what he really wanted: the power and freedom he thought that money could buy. He wanted money because he thought it would make him happy.
I could understand that. I had no money either, even though my family did. I wouldn’t get an allowance until I was ten. My mother gave me a nickel to put in the post at Brownies each week.

So it wasn’t a complete lie. It was a half lie. And it saved my life. I said if he let me go, my rich father, who loved me very much, would give him money.

When he asked me “How much?” I knew that I had him. There was a chance of surviving this. I boldly told him that I didn’t know how much, but I knew that it would be a lot. Somehow, I knew my worth was great to my father.

So, the brave, bright, intuitive little girl that I was made up a brilliant story. She rescued herself. By lying, I had freed myself from what my body clearly perceived as a threat to my survival.

After he let me stand up, I fumbled with the wet ties on my bathing suit, trying to comply with his demand that I take off my bathing suit before he let me go. I got it half way down, and then, totally humiliated, I asked if that was enough. He was lying on his side propped up on one elbow watching me shake and shiver, petrified of exposing my little flat nine-year-old chest.

Finally, disgusted, he agreed to let me go.

The little girl that got up off the ground where he had had me pinned that day was not the same magical, trusting, romantic little girl who went into the woods that day, pretending to be Maid Marion going to meet her hero, Robin Hood, on the other side of Sherwood Forest Park.

I bolted through the woods for the safe green lawn of the park and the open outstretched arms of the park attendant that who was waiting for me. She scooped me up and took me in her arms to a rocking chair, where I sobbed with relief as she rocked me. “Why? Why? Why did he do that?” She was a wise young girl. She knew she had no answer. And she didn’t pretend.

As she held me and comforted me, rocking me in her arms, I remember wondering to myself, “Why has my mother never held me like this?”

When they caught the boy and brought him in handcuffs for me to identify, I started shuddering with a coldness that penetrated my very being and never, apparently, left, until now.

That traumatic turning point is the basis for the novel I am writing called “White Butterflies.”

I have inflicted a lifetime of pain on myself and those I loved, punishing them for simply trying to love me. I compartmentalized that terror, hid myself from it in the spotlight. I fell in love with the glamour and fantasy of a life lived in the theatre. After playing Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I dropped out of high school at age sixteen, having been accepted by the National Theatre School of Canada, and went on to a career as a somewhat successful young actress.

At the age of seventeen, while at the Theatre School, I had another deeply traumatic experience, an illegal abortion done by a Nazi doctor who had practiced and perfected his trade in the concentration camps. It was something out of a Grade B movie, the darkened room, and the doctor in sunglasses behind a mahogany desk, hidden in a shadow behind a blinding pool of light on the desk blotter, the three one hundred dollar bills given by the head of the Theatre School from his own private abortion fund, destined for a Swiss Bank.

The next day, I had to be there between three and five minutes after three.
The doctor in a clinical white coat, his nurse wearing a starched nurse’s uniform and cap met me. It seemed to give an air of legitimacy to what they were doing. They sucked the baby out of me without anesthetic and flushed it down the toilet.

I at least had the presence of mind to ask whether it was a boy or a girl. It was a boy. It hit me that this four-month-old fetus had actually been a person, a little boy, my son. I had just heard them flush him down the toilet. In that moment I swore that if I ever became pregnant again, I would have the baby, regardless of the circumstances.

A year later I contracted pelvic inflammatory disease. The doctor was disgusted with me when I told him about the abortion. He told me the infection was probably the result of the illegal abortion. He told me that my Fallopian Tubes had been scarred, and I would probably have great difficulty conceiving.

He turned out he was right.

But I wanted children.

My first marriage failed when my husband announced, the day after we married, that after living together for eight years, he didn’t want to have children, even though we had constantly talked of what our Eurasian children would look like. The marriage lasted less than a year after that.

In the aftermath of that relationship, I got involved with another Asian man; this time a Japanese artist who was a survivor of the American concentration camps in California. He was an alcoholic, a close friend of my ex husband’s brother. The relationship turned violent within a week of its commencement when I mentioned my ex-husband’s name. He punched me in the stomach. I ran away from that man twenty times. Each time he found me.

I bought a tugboat to escape from him. Thinking he would never find me in a marina. I was wrong. He found me. But there was too much work involved in maintaining a tugboat, so, after stealing my television set, he left me alone for a while.

Early Christmas morning I was awakened by a loud, authoritative voice calling out my name. “Shelora!” It sounded like there was someone in the room commanding me to wake up. I knew it wasn’t the Japanese man’s voice.

It was much more powerful, almost majestic. I looked around and saw there was no one there or on the dock. It was spooky. The boat was moored under a bridge. The sound of seagulls echoed off the concrete. I got up, got dressed and went to spend Christmas Day with friends.

When I came home, the roof of the sixty-five foot tugboat was floating on top of the water. There was no sign of my black cat. I imagine he drowned. It seemed that, thanks to that voice, I had survived certain death.

I had nothing left. A diver had gone down and retrieved a few items, a piece of pottery or two. The salt water had ruined mostly everything.

Curiously enough one of the items that did survive was a letter written in ink by the Director of the National Theatre School, Powys Thomas, after my marriage broke up. This was the man who had paid for my abortion many years earlier.

Powys was playing King Lear at the Queen Elizabeth Theater at the time. It was the first time in his career that he had a lead in a Shakespeare play. When the Director of the Manitoba Theatre Centre heard it was the last night of Lear, he yelled, “Why didn’t anyone tell me Powys Thomas was playing Lear?” Under the direction of a quirky Polish Director, Powys was playing the mad scene very delicately, almost like Ophelia. He had wanted me to play his daughter, Cordelia, and told me he pictured my face over top of the actress that had been cast. In the middle of the night, after the show, he would come tapping on my window with a twig.

When that crazy relationship with the Japanese alcoholic was just beginning, Powys had come to visit me. He saw the man lurking darkly in the kitchen hallway, his pea jacket collar up, glowering at him like a street tough sailor.

”Too intense,” he warned me.

But, of course, I didn’t listen.

I was vulnerable. My ex-husband had married again less than a year after we separated. At age thirty-six, I was without a job, without a lover or a husband, living on unemployment insurance. I was running out of time.

One of the people who lived in the house where I was staying was the daughter of the well-known mediator, Vince Ready. daughter. He came to visit her, took one look at me in my red dress, and much to his daughter’s chagrin, asked me out on a date. I accepted, but instead of actually going anywhere, he picked me up after work, and asked me to come to Hawaii with him for a two-week vacation, all expenses paid. When I asked if there would be sex involved, he said “Of course.” I declined. But I was starting to feel a tad desperate, as if I was descending into some kind of limbo where I was becoming a prostitute.

Then to top it all off, I got fired from my job as a child-care counselor for doing Tarot card readings with the kids. The psychiatrist, who liked me, said I was a sort of Irish witch, and that he, as a psychiatrist, was little different from me in his function. It was just that I lacked the credibility of the Doctor’s degree that he had.

At any rate, for some bizarre reason, against my better judgment, I had gonefor the relationshp with the alcoholic artist and ended up completely isolated, my head being shoved through a wall, an army boot on my neck. When I asked him why he was doing this to me, he responded very matter of factly answered, “Because you are a woman.”

But, God knows how, he found me again. Drunk and yelling, he clambered up the fire escape and burst into the empty apartment and started taunting me, provoking and prodding me, trying to pick a fight.

I was physically and emotionally exhausted. I had lost everything. I couldn’t take any more. I had been determined not to sink to his level, but when he started hitting me again, something snapped. I summoned superhuman strength, turned on him, got him down on his knees, and started choking him to death.

He started crying and begged for his life. I finally let go on one condition.
He must promise to never pursue me or try to see me again.

He left, sheepishly. Strangely enough, he actually kept that promise. He never knowingly showed up where he knew I would be, at least until years later when he showed up at the funeral of my ex-husband’s nephew.

After surviving that horrendous terrifyingly crazy relationship, I didn’t trust that he would keep his word, so for a few months afterwards, I hid out at friend’s homes, or slept in my car.

A week after the last time I saw him, I wrote in my journal that it was over. I had no chance of ever finding a decent, normal reliable man, of getting married and having children.

That night I dreamed of a handsome riverboat captain, dressed in a black and silver shirt, black pants and a broad brimmed black hat, tilted to one side. I can still remember how he looked at me, a twinkle in his eye, smiled and winked.

Then I went upstairs for dinner, and there was my friend and colleague in the theatre, John Crawford. He was wearing…a black, silver trimmed shirt, tight black pants, and a broad-brimmed black hat.

I was startled. But not as much as when the same strong, deep, masculine Voice that had saved my life when my tugboat sank, spoke clearly and firmly out loud to me from somewhere inside my head.

“This is the man who is going to be the father of your children,” he said.

Stunned, I immediately told John what I had heard.

“That’s ok. I like kids.”

Well, naturally, this was the answer I had been waiting for all my life. He was Heaven sent! We fell madly in love, ran off to Mexico, swam naked under the stars in the phosphorescent water, snuck in to fancy resorts and lounged by the pool, pretending we were guests. We had a wonderful time for a month. One day, in a restaurant, John took a cigar ring, and put it on my finger. As far as I was concerned, that meant we were engaged. My dreams were coming true at last!

And then, on our way home, just as we were leaving Mexico, I drove past a cemetery in a small border town called Hermosio. I said to myself, I don’t ever want to come back here again. Just as I said those words, five black Ravens landed in the middle of the road, the engine died, and the VW van rolled to a stop. John spent the next two weeks under the van, trying to repair it. Turned out we needed to buy an American engine, and we needed to go to Texas to get one. I went looking for help, met some Mexicans in a Cantina who said they could help us they took us out drinking. At two o’clock in the morning, we ended up, drunk on fig wine, in a café with shiny blue walls and a single bare light bulb. The Mexican, who spoke excellent English, told us it belonged to the local “bruha” or witch.

Visions of Carlos Castaneda flashed before my eyes.

I said I wanted to meet her. I asked the man who had brought us there if I could see her, as I had a very important question to ask.

He asked me to hold out my hand. As he cupped his hand over mine, the energy between our hands was electric.

“I knew it the moment you came in,” he said. “You have the gift.”

“Can I see the Bruha”

He said, “No way! It would take weeks for you to prepare for such a meeting. And at any rate you are not strong enough for an encounter of that kind.”

“But,” he said, “You can ask me your question.”

John was busily engaged in a conversation with the other men, one of who was celebrating a birthday. He was drinking thick homemade fig wine from a glass gallon water jug. He seemed very happy. And he was eating “carnes asadas” (beef) after three years as a vegetarian. He was drunk on fig wine. He had a huge grin on his face. He was clearly having a wonderful time and was oblivious to the significance of this conversation.

I wanted the truth.

So I went straight for it.

“Is this the man who is going to be the father of my children?”

The big Mexican man turned slowly in his seat towards John. He called his name a few times, made sure he had his attention, and then announced loudly, bluntly, “This woman is either pregnant by you now, or will be within a month.”

The whole café fell silent.

“And you had better let her have it. I didn’t respect life, and I regret it to this day. I was drunk in the delivery room. When they handed me my newborn son, I dropped him on his head, and killed him!”

Shocked, John immediately sobered up.

He said nothing.

When we got home, he went to work logging up the coast in Egmont. He came to visit me every other weekend, and I visited him in his trailer ever other weekend. We walked in the snow in the woods. We went out in the “skukumchuck” in a metal boat. We made love in the trailer. Within less than a month, I was pregnant.

But it didn’t go exactly the way I imagined it would.

I was thrilled. The spell had been broken. I had conceived a child! And the father was a beautiful intelligent man, the man I had always dreamed of.

When he found out I was pregnant, John paused, considered, and then as if our out of some deep well, he pulled the word,

“Shoes.”

“What?”

“There are going to be shoes.”

As the oldest of six, John knew the ritual of buying new shoes well. You could pass down clothes, but not shoes.

As he contemplated his future as a father, I felt the cold burden of parental responsibility settle on his shoulders.

We considered our future together.

He was too young. He wasn’t ready for a baby he said.

He was twenty-eight.

I was just turned thirty-seven.

“We have only been together a few months. We should wait.”

We talked it over the whole weekend. It was decided that I should make an appointment with the best obstetrician in the city, Dr. Korn. All week long I had long conversations with my sister about this. She had tried to have an abortion with the same doctor I had, without success. She had borne and given up her twin sons for adoption, and regretted it ever after. Yet she encouraged me to have an abortion.

But I had sworn a sacred vow when they flushed my son down the toilet.
Never again.

Yet, the following Friday I found myself lying on his examination table. As he was finishing his examination, Dr. Korn paused and quietly made one simple statement.

“Tell me about the father of this baby.”

As I started talking about John, I described all his marvelous creative talents his intelligence, his family, his abilities, how we had fallen in love and were crazy about each other, so much that John kept saying, “This is bigger than both of us,”

I slowed down, and came to a halt. I realized what I was saying, what I was feeling.

This was my miracle. I adored this man. I wanted his baby. I knew he would make a wonderful father. After all, even though their relationship had ended, he was still visiting the three children, all by different fathers, that belonged to the woman he had been living with and supporting for the past three years. I wanted was to marry him, have his children and live with him for the rest of my life.

No matter what the consequences, whether I was alone or not, aborting this child was not the right thing to do. I had made a promise to my unborn son. It was time to honour it.

I got up off the table, thanked Dr. Korn and said, “Thank you very, very much. I won’t be having an abortion. I am having this baby.”

I went home and told John.

My beautiful daughters, Jessamyn and Kathleen, are my miracle babies that resulted from that destined meeting. The marriage lasted thirteen years. But somehow John always felt that he had been tricked into marriage and fatherhood. But the voice had said that he would be the father of my children, not the love of my life. As the man said, “Two out of three ain’t bad.”

In the last two months I have been through a monumental transformation. I fell down the stairs, fractured a vertebra, herniated a disk, and cracked a couple of ribs. I was in such excruciating pain that I literally could not stand up, let alone walk.

This came on top of the fact that long after my menopause I started menstruating. The doctors were very concerned that I might have uterine cancers, so I went through the whole mishigas: An ultrasound, inconclusive, a biopsy in the office, without anesthetic, inconclusive, and finally a hysteroscopy and a D&C under General Anesthetic.

Two days before the operation, I was lying in bed when I felt the sensation of fluttering butterfly wings that occurs around the four month of pregnancy. It is called the quickening. My son was four months old when I aborted him. I somehow knew it was his spirit letting me know he was there.

The friend who was on the phone with me when this happened somehow found himself channeling the voice of my baby. He said that he loved me very much and I would always be his mother. He told me that he had not really wanted to be born, to have a body. He said that I had given him life, and that he had been wandering the Universe ever since. And then he told my friend that his name was Jeffrey. Jeffrey Smith was the father’s name, before he changed it to his stage name, Colin Fox. He said that he would be with me during the operation, and that he was having a look around and everything looked fine!

The next day, as I was sitting on the bed at my friends’ house, he opened the window and in on the breeze wafted a fragrance so lovely that it was indescribable. It was like every beautiful flower that you have ever smelled, dusted with icing sugar, and wrapped in freshly laundered sheets. It brought back all the sweet memories of my childhood, sitting on the front steps smelling the orange blossoms, and the French Lilac. I asked my friend if he smelled it. He did not. It persisted for a good half hour. And then, just for good measure, the next day, as I was writing about it on my laptop at Starbucks, the same aroma filled the air. I asked everyone if they were wearing perfume, did they smell it? No one did, except me. It was as if Heaven’s Gates had been flung open and the fresh breezes of dawn were permeating the garden that is this world, and returning it to paradise.

And then came my healing session with Maxima.

As I came back into my body after the healing session, I found myself momentarily without the pain of these energies that had misled me and almost crippled me in an attempt to support me, I realized that I was an artist who had lost her way, squelched her talents and creativity, crippling myself for my beauty, my innocence, my imagination, and my gifts, in return for a false promise of safety. has been revealed to me as the lie I was living.

I now know that I have experienced the Atonement, the “At-One-ment.”

I have accepted the Divine Mission of assisting in the Ascension of all Humankind into the Light.

I know now that once I focus my intention and allow the radiant Light to flow through me from the Great Golden Rays at the center of the Galactic Universe, the Voice and my being is powerful enough to light up the entire Universe in an instant.

The result is infinitely sweet grace, peace, and a rooted, grounded unshakable knowing that I cannot be swerved from.

I am now vibrating at the level I was always supposed to be, prepared to accept my Destiny.

There are legions of angels at my beck and call, just waiting for me to command them.

I have dominion over the Universe.

I can move at will beyond the illusion of time and space, into parallel universes, alternate realities.

I had simply forgotten, or perhaps I was afraid of the fierce and ruthless power I contain within.

Not arrogant, but definitely ruthless.

I am no longer standing in the Light.

I AM the Light.

A subtle distinction, but one I am sure you are very familiar with.

I am the Light.

You are the Light.

We are all the Light.

The Light does not compete with “other light.”

It simply joins, and in the joining lie the miracles.
